Alton had been cultivating an eye for attention and detail for many years as a physician and researcher. He dove into the Houston art scene in the mid 1980’s with excitement and enthusiasm, making fast friends with artists, collectors and gallerists. He collected his favorite artists in depth, often affording them crucial support.
He loved meeting the young artists of the MFAH Core Program. The Core Program provides post graduate fellowships to artists on a highly competitive basis. He proudly served as Chair of the Core Committee for five years, deepening his ties with those artists and building support for the program.
Emily also enjoyed the Houston art scene and was happy to support local artists in their endeavors. Together they bought what they liked, and trusted their intuition, building a strong collection of Houston artists.
