Mathieu JN Baptiste was born in Port Au Prince, Haiti, and is based in Houston, Texas. JN Baptiste spent his early years in Haiti and St. Paul, Minnesota. He studied Art and Photography at Ecole Nationale des Arts (Enarts), in Port Au Prince, Haiti, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History. JN Baptiste uses paint and metal as tools to unite the world around him. He states, ‘This world is filled with confusion and misunderstandings as people struggle and strive in this beautifully complex maze of life.” JN Baptiste’s art reflects the good, the hopeful, and the interconnectedness of a better world. The core of his artistic prowess is his belief that art should teach, heal, and inspire. His works are influenced by oppressed subjects and populations' unsung stories, and the harsh realities of the voiceless that are sometimes never expressed. His purpose is to manipulate art to give voice to the oppressed of an ever-evolving generation.
JN Baptiste's artwork is displayed locally, nationally, and globally in museums, governmental buildings, educational institutions, healthcare clinics, hospitals, in public murals, and in private art collections. He is a highly sought after art expert, consultant, and instructor to educational institutions, private penitentiaries, and civic organizations. His work has been exhibited in the Woman’s Hospital of Texas, Discovery Green, the Jung Center, Rice University, Art Basel 2019-Art Beat Miami, Haiti’s Presidential Palace, the Houston Museum of African American Culture, the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, and Houston's Freedman's Town Conservancy, among many other notable institutions. He has participated in numerous charity events including APROFISA and the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti.
