Ron Hartgrove was born in Big Spring, Texas. He has been a practicing artist and internationally award winning jeweler since the 1970s. He counts among his early patrons John and Dominique de Menil, who bought several of his works of art that are now part of The Menil Collection. Hartgrove was the first Texas artist to be exhibited on the main floor of the Contemporary Art Museum Houston. After the exhibition, his focus shifted to jewelry making, which occupied the majority of his time until the early 2000s. Today his focus is again on art. His work is inspired by a 50-year practice of Transcendental Meditation.
